Youth Music Scholoraship
Enrollment is open year round for new applicants. Applications are available at the link below, or can be picked up in-person during normal business hours at The Cat and The Fiddle. Students in Grades 3rd-10th are eligble to apply for the first time. Once a student has complete 1 full scholarship round, they are able to re-apply and stay in the program until they reach the age of 18.
SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION
The Dakota Karper Youth Music Scholarship program (formally known as Music Makers) is a CMD program run in collaboration with the teachers of The Cat and The Fiddle folk music school to enrich the lives of children and youth in Hampshire County and surrounding areas. Students entering the Dakota Karper Youth Music Program for the first time must be in grades 3rd-1oth and are eligible to reapply and remain in the program until they are 18 years old.
A scholarship winner for this program would receive:
30 weeks of private 1-on-1 classes with a professional music instructor on the instrument of their choosing
5 weeks of group band classes
If they do not already have an instrument of their own, they would receive an instrument for their own use that they would be awarded to keep at the end of a successful completion of the program
Performance opportunities in up to 2 student recitals per year
The support of a musical community
Group workshops and field trips
Winners of a Dakota Karper Youth Music Scholarship are expected to:
Attend private music classes once a week held at The Cat and The Fiddle (CAPON BRIDGE, WV), field trips, workshops and group band.
Attend/participate in 3 music related events held at The River House (Music related events include: jams, concerts, open mics and recitals)
Practice a minimum of 20 min daily in order to master the material covered in classes
